MP gives seal of approval to new Yeovil housing development

July 16th 2009

The MP for Yeovil has visited a recently completed housing development after making a specific request to gain an insight into the standard of the accommodation being provided for local people.

David Laws MP for Yeovil visited sixteen flats and nine houses located at The Manse belonging to Yarlington Housing Group that were completed by integrated services provider Connaught Partnerships Ltd to offer a mixture of rental and shared ownership tenures.

The Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil made a visit to the development and was shown around both a house and a flat where he commented on the size of the accommodation, the quality of the design and the provision of the sustainable heating methods, with both air source heat pumps and solar panels being used in the properties.

The scheme was developed on a former garage site that had previously experienced problems with vandalism and misuse but through the partnership has now been transformed into an attractive residential neighbourhood providing homes for twenty-five families.

Yarlington Housing Group chief executive Mike Kay commented: “This is a fine example of how we have built for the community, providing for their changing needs. All of the properties are designed with safety, comfort, sustainability and security in mind and this is typical of the quality of building excellence that we now deliver as standard.”

Mike Boon, Connaught partnerships manager, said: “We were delighted to welcome David Laws MP to meet the new residents of The Manse to demonstrate how, together with Yarlington Housing Group, we have transformed a previously less desirable area into somewhere that local people want to live with a project completed on time and to budget.

“Throughout the process the partnership has demonstrated a commitment to meet the needs of residents with the inclusion of low cost, low carbon energy solutions and by providing a peaceful, attractive communal area at the specific request of some of the first families to move into the new properties.”
