1,000 Decent Homes completed with Arun District Council

August 7th 2009

Grandmother Jean Sheard has become the 1,000th Arun District Council tenant to benefit from improvements made to her home.

Mrs Sheard’s home in Olivier Court, Bersted has had a brand new kitchen fitted by Connaught Partnerships Ltd as part of an investment programme to improve Council-owned homes across the district to meet the government’s Decent Homes standard.

Mrs Sheard said: “I’m delighted with the work and the way it has been carried out. It’s made such a difference to my home and to my quality of life. Everyone who has seen it has commented on what a difference it has made. I am really grateful to the lads who have carried out the work.”

Councillor Robin Brown, Arun’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Care, said: “The 1,000th refurbishment is a significant milestone in our Decent Homes works programme which has seen more than £8 million pound spent on bringing properties up to the Decent Homes standard.

These improvements give a new lease of life to people’s homes and I am delighted that Mrs Sheard is happy with the results.”

To mark the occasion Mrs Sheard was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Councillor Robin Brown and Brian Holden, Connaught Partnerships project manager. Brian said: “We are delighted to reach this significant milestone of improvements to Arun properties. The feedback we have been receiving from tenants has been especially pleasing, with many as thrilled as Mrs Sheard with the difference the works have made to their homes."
