Connaught street cleaning to championship standards

Connaught Environmental Ltd is aiming to provide an ‘ace’ service as it raises its game and keeps the streets clean around the Wimbledon Championships from 21 June to 4 July as part of its contract with the London Borough of Wandsworth.
Connaught is one of the top seeds and its team has been preparing for the annual Wimbledon tournament, focussing on making the journey for thousands of spectators from Southfields tube station to the All England Club as pleasant and as pristine as the tennis courts. Around 90,000 spectators are expected to visit the All England Club in the first two days and a vast majority of them arrive via Southfields tube on the District Line. The organisers expect 500,000 tennis fans will attend the Championships, potentially creating a lot of extra litter to collect for Connaught and Wandsworth.
During the Wimbledon fortnight Wandsworth Borough Council and Connaught work around the clock to maintain Championship standards. Even though spectators can no longer set up camp on the pavement area in order to queue for tickets the Connaught team will be litter picking, street cleaning and emptying bins all day throughout the duration of the tournament. This year Connaught has new equipment to make sure the service is as good as it can be.

We lay on extra staff and vehicles to sweep the roads and pay particular attention to Southfields tube station, where people either get a shuttle bus or walk down Wimbledon Park Road. It’s a landmark event for Wandsworth, the UK and for Connaught and we’re proud to be a part of it. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for Andy Murray this year!”
